Friday-Carol

I HAVE to get back on track! This is getting ridiculous.

Breakfast-2 cups of coffee and an oatmeal chocolate chip cookie

Snack-1 roll of smarties and 1 small peppermint chocolate Dove square

Lunch-salad w/o dressing, a few olives, grapes, cranberries and unsweet tea I know there was a little more on my plate-just can't think of what it was

Snack-a few doritos, 4 marshmallows, a dolup of frosting, a few pretzels, a handful of M&M's and a couple of mini chocolate kisses-We made marshmallow snowmen in class and I just couldn't resist!-I'm paying for it today though!

Dinner-bowl of deer chili with cheez-its

Can you tell why I woke up with a stomachache! I WILL do better today. It's amazing to me how much I can feel the difference inside my body when I make better choices.

* I know I am eating like a bird right now and I do feel hungry. The problem is that I spent Wed-Sun of last week enjoying myself very much in the kitchen. Now I am suffering the consequences trying to get my weight back down to where it was last Wednesday morning. UGH!

Wednesday, Weigh Day

I am weighing in early today due to Thanksgiving. We are going to my in-laws tonight for dinner and then my parents tomorrow night for dinner.

I lost 1 pound this week so that is really just the pound I had gained last week. My total is 3 pounds which is still a loss so I will take it! Slow and steady wins the race.

Just to blog a bit about these next 2 days. I have a tendency to pig out the entire day when I know I am going to have a big meal. It is like I give myself permission to eat all day. It is nuts! I am going to try to avoid that over the next couple of days. For example, this morning I had my coffee and my Special K bar this morning. I plan to have a low calorie lunch and then eat my big Thanksgiving meal tonight. I plan to do the same thing tomorrow. It is crazy to eat all day just because I am having a big meal for dinner. It is silly to gain a couple of pounds in 2 days just to spend the next 2 weeks trying to lose them. It is all definitely a mind thing. My next weigh day will be next Friday, December 2.

I can barely remember all the food I ate yesterday so I'm just going to write down everything I remember from the two days combined.

Breakfast for both days-oatmeal and 2 cups of coffee, peppermint mocha from McDonald's

Snack-cheez-its, 1 york peppermint patty, pretzels, small piece of cake, unsweet tea, coffee, almonds

Lunch-both days...turkey sandwich on pita bread with laughing cow cheese and avacado instead of mustard

Dinner-smart ones baked ziti, baked sweet potato


Week 3, Saturday and Sunday, Jenny

Saturday

Lunch- chicken noodle soup

Snack- 3 Oreos

Dinner- We ordered pizza because we were putting up the Christmas. I ate one slice. I also had 1 1/2 breakdsticks.

Lunch- Weight Watchers pizza

Snack- a piece of Ava's birthday cake

Dinner- Not sure what I want tonight. I took a nap and I do not feel too hungry since I woke up. I will probably fix a bowl of tomato soup.

Week 2 Friday-Carol

Since Jenny shared the good & bad news in an earlier post I thought it would be appropriate to continue with it. So the good news is that I forgot to step on the scale when I went to school today. The bad news is I know I have gained this week without even stepping on it. I've had the munchies, and I haven't made the best of choices. I've got to watch it carefully this next week, and once again...I need more water to drink!! That's the ultimate goal for this next week.

Week2 Weigh in, Jenny

Ok, this morning was not as fun as I had wanted to be. I stepped on that scale and I was UP one pound! I can contribute it to the trail mix last weekend, and the chips and cupcake yesterday. That is the bad news. The good news is I am not letting this get me down or make me give up. I lost almost 40 pounds many years ago and I did it because I stuck with it even through the weeks I gained. Like I said yesterday, I plan to weigh on Wednesday of this next week. That gives me 5 short days to make it happen!!!

Weigh in is tomorrow. I'm not anticipating a loss at all, and that's ok as long as it's not a GAIN!!!

Week 2, Thursday, Jenny

Breakfast- oatmeal breakfast cookie (Today was so busy I didn't even drink my coffee. I saw the full cup on my desk at 3 this afternoon and realized I had forgotten to drink it this morning. That is called stress!)

Lunch- Weight Watchers Smart Ones Pizza and Special K Bar

Snack- I literally inhaled one of Ava's birthday cupcakes. The sad thing is I think I didn't even taste it. :O(

Dinner- We went to Mezcal for Ava's birthday. I had chips and rice.

Our weigh day is tomorrow, and I have a feeling I am about the same. I did really good most of the week with eating. I messed up last weekend when I didn't eat much other than trail mix filled with calories. I had to spend the rest of the week trying to catch up. I will not make that mistake again!!!

By the way, I plan to have my weigh in day next Wednesday instead of Friday. We are doing Thanksgiving dinner on Wednesday night and Thursday night along with Black Friday shopping all night and day.

Week 2-Wednesday-Carol


Jenny, are you hungry?? You didn't eat much! All I did today was eat...at least that's what it felt like. I have to be honest...yesterday I left off 2 items(maybe 3). I mean really??? How could I forget what I ate? That just means that I am eating WAY too much this week, and I need to slow it down!

Yesterday's munchies-2 pimento cheese sandwiches and an apple. They were small sandwiches that were given to me by a friend who had them leftover from a shower. That was very sweet of her, but I definitely shouldn't have eaten both!

Today...
Breakfast-1 cup coffee and oatmeal chocolate chip cookie
lunch-lite blueberry yogurt with granola topping, grapes, and a wedge of laughing cow cheese
snack- cheez-its, almonds, 2 skittles, 2 triscuits
dinner-1/2 thick pork chop, greenbeans, 1/2 roll, 1 piece of dark chocolate, 1 bite of key Lime Pie...YUM!!!

If I could erase any of this it would be the pimento cheese sandwiches. I certainly didn't need them. They were good, but really I could live without them. One would have even been better, but somehow I was tempted to eat them both. My goal is to resist that temptation tomorrow as best as possible!

Monday-I can already tell that I won't lose as much this week as I did last week. This past weekend was rough even though I tried so HARD not to over-do-it on my trip to AL. I'm still trying to eat as healthy as possible for me.

Day 5, Week 2, Jenny

Dinner- Waffles

Snack- Yoplait yogurt key lime bites- These are new and so yummy! They are in the frozen food section. It is frozen key lime yogurt with granola around it. They are 30 calories a piece and so good!!!

Today was a pretty good day as far as eating goes. Here is what I ate:

Dinner- Rottesiere chicken (not sure how to spell that word), lima beans, corn, and a roll

Weigh in Day and weekend meals

I've lost 2.5 pounds, but wait till you hear what all I ate this past weekend! I may have to start all over come Monday morning!

Friday started my first day of the annual Sisters' Shopping Trip. We traveled to Birmingham, AL to begin our Christmas shopping. I knew the entire weekend would be a challenge, and I was right. It was hard to resist the things that I love so I decided not to resist at all! I still ate the foods that I love, but I was able to hold myself accountable knowing that it would all be written down for everyone to see. So I have to say that this blog has helped me 100%. Thanks again Jenny for including me in on the blog!

Friday was a great day! 2 cups of coffee, Chic-fil-A chicken sandwich, salad and 2 small slices of cheese pizza from California Pizza Kitchen...YUM!!!

Saturday-2 cups of coffee, 2 scrambled eggs & grits with a little bit of cheese on the top from Edgur's Bakery...YUM!!! Ruby Tuesday's lunch consisted of mini turkey burgers (no bun) with lettuce and tomato, salad including spinach leaves, broccoli, green peppers,and cheese on it with just a little bit of dressing on the salad, and 1 garlic cheese roll. We went to Chuy's for dinner and it was DELICIOUS!!! I had WAAAY too many chips and salsa! That ruined my entire day! I also ate 2 tacos and a couple bites of charro beans.

Sunday-2 cups of coffee, McDonald's oatmeal with brown sugar (That's my favorite meal from McDonald's!) We ate at a place called Sweet Peppers. Oh, man, it was sooooo good! I ordered from the Lite Menu. I ate a turkey sandwich with a side item of fruit. I sure wish we had one of these places in the Memphis area. Then again, it's probably good that we don't!
For dinner I was back at home. My sweet husband not only watched the kids the entire weekend, but the house was clean and the food was cooking on the stove! I'm a lucky girl! We has spaghetti with deer meat(sounds gross doesn't it?) It was surprisingly very tasty! For a snack I had almonds and a york peppermint patty. OOPS!

I'm looking forward to getting back on track tomorrow at school. I need to make up for all that I probably ruined.

Week 2, Day 3, Jenny

Breakfast- Oatmeal bar

Lunch- 1/2 roast beef sandwich and cup of potato soup along with 1/2 of Ava's sugar cookie

Dinner- Salisbury steak and cinnamon apples

* Much better day today!!!

Week 2, Day 2, Jenny

Ok, so I had another unhealthy day of eating.
Breakfast- oatmeal bar

* I didn't eat any lunch or dinner because I had munched on trail mix and had a sick stomach from it. I did have a few appetizers at a wedding I went to Saturday night. I also had a piece of wedding cake. I will be posting Sunday's day soon and it was definitely better. Plus, it is just about the start of the work week so I look forward to some healthier days ahead!

Week 2, Day 1, Jenny

Well, I didn't exactly eat healthy today. The only thing we had for breakfast was pop-tarts so that is what I had in the morning. Then I ran errands all day so I ate a late lunch at Chick-fil-a. I did get the kid's meal. The rest of the day I munched on trail mix so I was not hungry for dinner. I did go to the grocery and tried to make healthier choices. Here's to week 2!

Weigh Day-Jenny

Well, today is our first weigh in. I got on the scale this morning and I am down 3 pounds!!! I am happy with it, but also frustrated because those 3 pounds were just from Halloween candy! You see, I had gained 3 pounds the week after Halloween from all that stinkin candy sitting around. At least those 3 pounds are now gone! One thing I have learned this week is that I need to eat healthier foods. That is so hard for me because I am such a picky eater. I love seeing the foods I eat on the screen in black and white. It truly has helped hold me accountable for what I put in my mouth!!! On to week 2!

Week 1 Day 7-Carol

Snack-1 piece of candy (Laffy Taffy)

Dinner-I feel horrible with myself! I went to Mezcal tonight and ate chips & salsa and chips with cheese dip....AGH! I also ate 1 hard shell taco, rice and beans with water to drink.


Week 1, Day 7, Jenny

Breakfast- Special K and coffee

Lunch- Smart Ones Weight Watchers pizza and 1 cup of grapes

Snack- 9 M&M's and dry cereal

Dinner- pop-tart (Kevin is getting home late tonight so me and the girls just had "whatever" for dinner.)

Snack- 2 graham crackers

Tomorrow is our first weigh day! I am excited to see how everyone does tomorrow! I love this blog and I hope it helps us all lose weight. It has made me very aware of the things I am eating. I know I do not eat healthy at all after looking at Carol's food. The problem is that I am so picky! LOL!

Week 1, Days 2 through 7, Mandy

I know you are wondering where I have been. I haven't blogged since Week 1, Day 1! I have been having trouble signing into the blog but don't worry....I have been writing down my meals. This week has been hectic. I haven't been feeling good. I have my annual sinus infection. I have coughed so much that I think I am about to go crazy! I went to the doctor today and got my annual sinus cocktail shot. I am beginning to feel much better!

So here is my update on my meals:

Saturday (Day 2)
Breakfast:
1 package of maple brown sugar oatmeal
2 cups of coffee with cream & sugar

Lunch:
6 inch BLT on wheat with light mayo and a drizzle of olive oil and vinegar from Subway

Snack: 1/2 garlic bread from my Mom's lunch

Dinner: 1 slice of pork tenderloin, approximately 2 cups of black eyed peas, about 1 cup of sauteed mushrooms, 1 scoop of mashed potatoes (mashed potatoes were not a good choice but I did better than I normally do and ate a small portion.)

Sunday (Day 3)
Breakfast: 1 packaged of maple and brown sugar oatmeal and 2 cups of coffee with cream and sugar

Lunch: 1/2 of salad with grilled chicken at the Helen Brett Show. I was so proud because last year I remember eating a GIGANTIC barbecue sandwich and chips. I chose wisely this year.

Dinner: this was a very difficult dinner because we went to my sister-in-laws for my nieces 9th birthday. She fixes the best spaghetti and anyone who knows me understands that I don't eat small portions of spaghetti. It is by far my all time favorite food. However, I did it! I ate a very small portion and took advantage of the salad instead. Yay ME! I did eat a tiny piece of cake because I couldn't resist. But again....I made the portion very small.

Monday (Day 4)
Breakfast: 1 packaged of maple and brown sugar oatmeal and 2 cups of coffee with cream and sugar

Lunch: My brother, Robbie and I went to lunch after I took him to the doctor. We went to McAlister's and I had my favorite salad called the Savannah Chopped Salad and 4 club crackers.

Dinner: fist size portion of grilled chicken, 1 cup of Lima beans, and a baked potato with nothing on it but salt and pepper

Tuesday (Day 5)
Breakfast: 1 packaged of maple and brown sugar oatmeal and 2 cups of coffee with cream and sugar

Lunch: Black forest ham sandwich with horseradish mustard and a banana

Snack: Banana

Dinner: 1 hamburger chopped steak, about 2 cups of leftover black eyed peas and about the same amount of Lima beans

Wednesday (Day 6)
Breakfast: 1 packaged of maple and brown sugar oatmeal and 2 cups of coffee with cream and sugar

Lunch: VERY VERY BAD! I think me not blogging on a regular basis is making my motivation disappear. I had to help a friend out today and after we were finished we sent to eat at Patrick's. Goodness....I was very bad. I am embarrassed but I ate macaroni and cheese, but I did counter that and ate turnip greens, and squash. But I did sin again and ate 1 corn bread. I feel bad about it now. I gotta do better.

Dinner: 1 baked potato (had to make up for the awful lunch I had)

Thursday (Day 7)
Breakfast: 2 cups of coffee with cream and sugar. However, I didn't finish some of the 2nd cup. Scrambled eggs with cheese (This is what Aubrey wanted to so I ate a few)

Lunch: Black forest ham sandwich with horseradish mustard and a few baked potato chips with salsa and a banana

Dinner: TBD

Week 1 Day 5 Tuesday-Carol


I put away some food today! I believe I hit EVERY food group several times! In fact I had dinner at 4:45 at a baby shower, and you know how baby showers are...you simply go for the food... well, and for your dear friends of course! I'll have to be more careful tomorrow.

Breakfast-2 cups coffee and an oatmeal breakfast bar

Lunch-salad with tuna, 1 chicken tender, grapes, cranberries, olives, cottage cheese, and almond nut mix

Dinner-very small portions of each...1 sausage ball, chips and buffalo wing dip, small hamburger without the bun, tomato and lettuce on it, a bite of a brownie, a bite of sugar cookie with blue berries and kiwi on it and fruit tea to drink

Snack-almonds

Tuesday:

Lunch- Baked Potato and 1 cup of grapes

Snack- Fiber One Brownie

It is almost 7:00 as I am posting this. I would really like a snack before bed but I am going to try and be good and resist! Oprah always says not to eat past 7:00! :O)

Week 1 Day 4 Monday: Carol

I'm with Jenny! I already feel better in just 4 days of eating healthier.
Here's what I ate today. I'm going ahead and posting so that I won't be tempted to eat any anymore before bed.
Breakfast-2 cups coffee, oatmeal breakfast cookie
Lunch-salad with a little tuna on it, dried cranberries and grapes as my dressing, cottage cheese, a boiled egg, and almonds/raisins mixture. I love the trays we use at school. There are tiny sections that you can fill up with a variety of foods, and I can certainly fill them up! It's funny to see people look at my plate as I walk up the stairs to the teachers' lounge.
Snack-1 caramel rice cake, grapes, jello chocolate Sugar free pudding
Dinner-cereal with milk
snack- fiber one fudge chocolate brownie

Week 1, day 4, Jenny

Here is what I ate today which is Monday:

Breakfast- Special K bar and coffee

Lunch- This was a challenge. I forgot to order a baked potato from the cafeteria so I was in a dilemma come lunch time. I could have gone for the crispito or the chicken sandwich. Instead I chose a cup of carrots, a cup of Au Grauten potatoes, and a cup of grapes.

Snack- I had a bite size Snickers bar and dry cereal (I am a cereal addict)

Dinner- We went to Three Guys Pizza for Ava's soccer celebration. I did eat 2 small garlic knots, a handful of fries, and half a chicken sandwich. (Probably not the healthiest meal but I did control my portions)

* I managed to get in a lot of water today which is not usually a problem for me. I tend to drink a lot of water anyway. I just need to work on the exercise still.

* I do have to say that I already feel better. It is amazing how much better you can feel when you eat better!

Week 1 Day 3(Sunday) Carol

I mentioned I would let you know if I gave in last night, and I have to be honest...I did. I had more grapes and cheese right before bedtime. That's much better than the alternative that I used to eat....handfuls of chocolate! Here is what was on the menu for today.
Breakfast-1 cup coffee and high fiber oatmeal
Snack-handful of almonds
Lunch-milk, turkey and cheese sandwich with mustard, Cheez-its
Snack-pretzels and grapes
dinner-Campbell's Chunky chicken chili soup
Snack-almonds with one small block of Dove dark chocolate

I'm already looking forward to our wonderful school lunch tomorrow. I always fill up my plate as if it's my last meal on Earth, but I feel as if it's the time of day when I get all my nutrients.

Week 1, Day 2 and 3, Jenny

Week 1, Day 2 (Saturday)

Breakfast- Special K bar and coffee (my usual)

Snack- Banana

Lunch- 1 slice of pizza (Elia had her end of the year soccer party at Rizzi's Pizza so I used portion control and ate only 1 slice.)

Snack- 1 cup of cereal (no milk)

Dinner- Tomato Soup


Week 1, Day 3 (Sunday)

Breakfast- Special K Bar and coffee

Snack- Banana

Lunch- Ok, this was a terrible so-called lunch. Mandy and I went to the Hellen Brett Show today. They did have things like BBQ nachos for lunch. As much I wanted to "go there" I didn't. They also had salads but I hate salads so I bought a granola bar. Needless to say, by the time we made it home by 2:30 I was VERY hungry so I had a cup of cereal without milk. Not so healthy for lunch but better than the alternative of BBQ nachos.

Dinner- Turkey dog and 1 smore (We had our November family theme dinner tonight.)

I am geared up and ready for the start of the work week. I actually do so much better with eating while I am working. (Less time to snack.)

Week 1 Day 1 and Day 2 Carol

It's a good thing we are calling this blog...Fabulous by Forty. It may take me 5 years and 2 months to get there, but I'm on the right track now! The only way I have been able to lose weight before is when money has been the goal with weight loss challenges. There is no money involved this time. Instead it's all about ACCOUNTABILITY-not only with myself, but with my friends, Jenny and Mandy. We are holding each other accountable not only so we will feel better in our clothes but also for our health. If we don't get it together now, we will be "Fat by Fifty"! As you join us as we take time to reflect on foods that we eat each day, please keep in mind that we are in no way going to be healthy all the time. There are going to be "those days" when we just have to live a little, enjoy life, and forget about what others may think! I can already tell you that Thanksgiving and Christmas will be those days, and there are going to be many more days like it in between. I also need to warn you that I LOVE to eat, and I'm a Junk-Food Junkie, but so far in two days I have been pretty good. We'll see how long this lasts!

Day 1-Friday, Nov. 4
Breakfast- 1 Chocolate Chip Oatmeal Breakfast Cookie
2 cups of coffee

Snack- grapes

Lunch- salad with a spoonful of tuna, 2 cups of grapes, and dried cranberries on it.-no dressing
1 cup pineapple
boiled egg

Snack- 1 triangle -Laughing Cow Cheese

Dinner- Campbell's Chunky Seafood Gumbo Soup with Cheez-Its

Snack- Handful of almonds
Yes, I went to bed hungry!

Day 2
Breakfast- 2 cups coffee and 1 Chocolate Chip Oatmeal Breakfast Cookie

Lunch- Oatmeal (I needed something fast to eat. I was on the go this morning. Keeping myself busy keeps me out of the pantry!)

Snack- Almonds and Yoplait blueberry yogurt with granola topping

Dinner- Chic-Fil-A fried chicken sandwich
I'm worried that my night is not over. This is when I really break down! I'll let you know tomorrow how it goes!

Week 1, Day 1, Mandy

Okay, I can't believe I am blogging about losing weight. When Jenny first had the idea about making a blog, I admit I was scared to death and somewhat reluctant! But, something told me that it would work. I can honestly say even though I am scared, I am excited. I have wanted to lose weight for a long long time and just couldn't. Not only am I wanting to lose weight because of my appearance but also because of health reasons. I am to young to be on blood pressure medicine and cholesterol medicine. This used to be about looking good but now its more about being healthy. I am hoping by putting this out for everyone to see, that I stay motivated and am successful this go around. So here we go!!!

I survived Day 1! It was actually very easy. I was busy most of the day helping out at my daughter's school and then we were busy all afternoon and evening.

Here is what I ate:

Breakfast: 2 cups of coffee with cream and sugar
Lunch: Salad with a modest amount of ranch dressing. I did put a small serving of cheddar cheese on the salad and a few slices of a boiled egg. Also, had about a 1/4 cup of pineapples, and 1/4 of noodle salad.
Dinner: fist size chicken breast, black-eyed peas, and green peas
Snack: chocolate chip granola bar.

I didn't exercise but I talked to a few people about what I needed to start doing like walking, etc. I need to get a plan down for that. I will work on that this weekend and hopefully start next week.

Also, way to go Jenny! I am proud of you. We can do this girl! Love you and thanks for encouraging me to do this!



Week 1 Day 1, Jenny



So I made it through day one. Whew! It was actually a lot easier than most days, but day one is always the easiest. Here is what I ate today:

Breakfast- Special K Bar
Lunch- Weight Watchers Smart Ones Pizza and grapes
Dinner- Subway sandwich and Baked Lays Chips
* I did have half of Ava's cookie she got at the mall. This is something I am going to have to be careful about doing. I am terrible about nibbling on the girls' fries or snacks that they don't finish. The "little nibbles" can add up to lots of calories.

Exercise- None today considering I didn't get home until 8:00 tonight. Of course, we did have the Tiger Crawl this morning at school so I did get a couple of laps in around the parking lot.


November 4-Week 1

Carol, Mandy, and I started this blog as a way to hold ourselves and each other accountable for our weight loss. The three of us are now closer to forty than we are to thirty so we plan to look Fabulous by Forty.

We plan to update our blog every couple of days or every week. We will post what we eat each day as well as any exercise we do for the week. Then, every Friday, we will post our weight loss. Stay tuned to see some mommas look Fabulous by Forty!!!
